Funding Boost for MPS

Minister of Disability Services, Andrew Constance, announced $482,000 in one-off funding from the NSW Government for Megalong Positioning Service (MPS).

MPS makes customised seating and positioning equipment for people with a disability.

MPS is a social enterprise of Greystanes Disability Services (formerly Disability Enterprises).

The service has been providing customised position and mobility support systems for people with disabilities and the frail aged for nearly ten years.

The funding will allow MPS to transition from the small Greystanes’ workshop in Leura to a modern industrial factory unit in Lawson. The new Lawson facility will allow MPS to work more efficiently, develop new products and become a self-sustaining social enterprise.

In the long term, Greystanes hope to expand MPS’ services to other states and territories in Australia. Greystanes has also been able to employ an occupational therapist who, like the existing Senior Seating and Positioning Consultant, will visit private homes, accommodation services, aged care facilities, hospital and school in order to conduct assessments and design tailored products to meet individual needs.

“I look forward to seeing this valuable service grow and improve its production processes in the new factory,” Mr Constance said. “MPS now has increased capacity to expand its services and access the latest in positioning technologies to make the lives of people with disabilities as comfortable as possible.”

Blue Mountains MP Roza Sage and Blue Mountains City Councillor Chris Van der Kley were also present for the funding announcement on Tuesday, 5 July at the Lawson Industrial Estate. More information about Megalong Positioning Service, contact Wim Hartog on 0427 017 177.
